Hands-On Vehicle Security

On December 11, 2024, Yekta IT, partner in the FINESSE consortium, presented the innovative YekCar Automotive Demonstrator at IT Security Day NRW in Bonn. With over 1,000 participants, the event provided an important platform for exchanging information about current cyber threats.

The YekCar Demonstrator

YekCar is an advanced training platform for automotive cybersecurity. The system emulates a real vehicle with authentic CAN communication and modular design – various control units (ECUs) perform individual tasks like in a real vehicle. Three interactive dashboards visualize different perspectives: the Driver Dashboard shows the driver’s perspective, the Attacker Dashboard enables attack simulation, and the Defender Dashboard visualizes detection mechanisms.

The demonstrator can simulate various attack scenarios in real-time – from CAN injection attacks to speed manipulation. The effects are immediately visible on the dashboards. Yekta IT continuously develops the demonstrator, including a 3D simulator for more detailed visualizations and an OBD2 connector for connecting real diagnostic devices.

The YekCar Demonstrator is an important validation tool in the FINESSE project. The platform enables testing developed security solutions under realistic conditions before deployment in real vehicles. The insights flow into developing Intrusion Detection Systems, security monitoring strategies for Vehicle Security Operations Centers, and attack taxonomies.
